This wasn't just Markus's second oil painting, it was an experiment in 3D imagery, like the old 3d postcards. It's actually 3 layers of paint each separated by 1/4 inch of resin. So in fact the foreground (tip of nose, hair etc) was floating a half inch above the background (back of hair, dress etc). It proved to be an interesting effect. The whole piece took two weeks to create, most of that was waiting for each resin layer to completely dry.
