Where would I be without alpha maps? I use them in everything. Alpha maps are an extra black and white channel that tells the program which part of an image or video to keep transparent. I use it a lot to insert people, plants and animals into a 3D scene. They are mapped usually onto a single square polygon so they have almost no geometry and it renders very fast. Oh yeah, and it looks real too !
